iPad is Defective By Design

Are you thinking about buying an Apple iPad?

Please don’t if you care about freedom of speech.

This pad is a censorship device because of a built-in technology called DRM.

They say that DRM means Digital Rights Management but from our point of view DRM means Digital RESTRICTIONS Management because it restricts what you can do with your device:  it tells you what applications you can install, what files you can share and where, and other malicious anti-features.

I invite you to sign this petition to ask Steve Jobs to drop all the DRM from the iPad before it hits the market.

Feb 3rd update: For every 5,000 signatures we get, we will send this giant “1984″ postcard to Steve Jobs.

Please help me to share this news.

  1. Put this link in your email signature
  2. Link this post on your blog
  3. Link this post on your favourite free social network or microblogging network
  4. Send an email to all your friends about it
  5. Talk about it in your favourite irc channels

Together we can put an end to DRM.

You can also join our campaign against DRM called Defective By Design.

Windows 7 Sins

Windows 7 Sins

Today the Free Software Foundation started a campaign against Microsoft Windows 7 and proprietary software called Windows 7 Sins.

The new version of Microsoft’s Windows operating system, Windows 7, has the same problem that Vista, XP, and all previous versions have had — it’s proprietary software. Users are not permitted to share or modify the Windows software, or examine how it works inside.

The fact that Windows 7 is proprietary means that Microsoft asserts legal control over its users through a combination of copyrights, contracts, and patents. Microsoft uses this power to abuse computer users.

If you wish to buy a new computer without windows preinstalled, please buy it online. If you are looking for a fully free software friendly netbook I can suggest you the one I use: the Lemote Yeeloong.

Help us spreading the truth about Windows 7 and all its sins:

  • translate this post
  • share this post on identi.ca
  • write a post on your blog or website
  • put the windows 7 sins banner on your blog or website
  • send an sms/mms/mail to your friends

Join the Free Software Foundation to start fighting for your digital freedom

Thank you for all your support and help.

Windows 7 Sins Windows 7 Sins

Seattle area activists, help represent Defective By Design

* Seattle, Wednesday, March 25th: Represent Defective By Design
at the Federal Trade Commission Town Hall Meeting on DRM and ask
the right questions:
<http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/workshops/drm/index.shtml>

* Not near Seattle? Stay tuned for action coming on
the Amazon Kindle 2... In the meantime, add the Defective By Design
tags to it at
<http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Amazons-Wireless-Reading-Generation/dp/B00154JDAI>.

The Federal Trade Commission is hosting a Town Hall event along
with the Public Policy Clinic at the University of Washington School
of Law to discuss what they are unfortunately calling "Digital
Rights Management." It would have been better if they had used
the more accurate name -- Digital Restrictions Management -- but
it is nonetheless an important chance for you to speak out
against technology that infringes on our fundamental freedoms.

Our application to be included as a panelist at the event
was rejected. Fortunately, there will be good people from
other organizations who get it, like the Electronic Frontier
Foundation and Public Knowledge -- but we need you there to support
them and to make sure the voice of the Defective By Design campaign
is heard.

Please let us know that you will be attending at
<info@defectivebydesign.org>.
Our goal is to make sure the tough questions get asked of people
representing the MPAA and other DRM pushers, and to distribute
handouts about DRM and Defective By Design to people attending
the meeting. We'd also love to post any pictures and blog entries
from the event afterward at defectivebydesign.org!

In solidarity,
Peter, John, Matt and the DRM Elimination Crew
